Focusing on ABBABB equipment selection, maintenance, spare parts, and second-hand circulation, we answer the most frequently asked questions from customers.
What do ABB alarms of 38xxx and 10xxx respectively represent?
ABB's event logs are organized by segment. Segment 10xxx mostly covers system and configuration classes; mismatches in programs, modules, and system parameters are all found here; Segment 38xxx basically points to the Serial Measurement Board (SMB) path, where communication anomalies between the encoder, resolver, and SMB battery are all included. SMB battery depletion is the most common type, and it can also cause loss of zero positions. When reading, you should also look at the accompanying entries 2xxxx and 3xxxx; focusing only on the main number can easily lead to misdirection.
Are ABB's IRC5 and OmniCore controllers interchangeable?
The current models come with OmniCore series control cabinets, while the IRC5 is the previous generation and is still widely used on older devices. The two generations are not interchangeable: cabinet dimensions, driver modules, and electrical interfaces are all different. The FlexPendant teach pendant and software versions are also generational, so mixing them simply won't light up. When buying a second-hand complete machine or searching for spare parts and cards, the first step is to confirm the cabinet type. If you get this step wrong, you won't be able to install the item after purchase. Before renovating old production lines, it is also recommended to review the cabinet type inventory first.
Are ABB robot parts easy to find? How long is the typical maintenance cycle?
ABB has a large presence in the automotive and parts industries, while the channels for conventional parts such as SMB batteries, fans, encoder cables, and teach pendant parts are relatively smooth; The driver module and motherboard depend on the specific cabinet type; OmniCore in-progress parts are easier to order than IRC5 older parts. We do not promise fixed days. If the board can be repaired at the same level, we will repair it first; if replacement is necessary, the order will be calculated according to the order cycle. After inspection, we will provide an estimate. The service center is in Nanchong, and on-site testing can be arranged in Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan, and Guizhou.
What working conditions and industries are ABB robots suitable for?
ABB covers loads from 4kg to 800kg. Arc welding is traditionally a strength. Models with built-in cables like the IRB 1600 and 1660ID have clean routing and minimal interference; Spraying options include IRB 52, IRB 5500, and 5510, paired with FlexPainter for offline spray gun paths; For heavy-duty handling and spot welding, see IRB 660, IRB 6700, IRB 8700; For small item sorting, use IRB 360 FlexPicker in parallel. For offline programming, RobotStudio's ecosystem is mature, allowing you to set up programs in a virtual environment before onboarding.
Are ABB used robots worth buying? How is the second-hand market?
ABB used cars are widely circulated domestically, especially the IRB 1600, IRB 2600, IRB 4400, and IRB 4600, which are mostly converted and replaced by automotive suppliers. In terms of market value, ABB's second-hand prices are roughly in the same price as FANUC's, and the arc welding model (with built-in cable ID and welding kit) is actually more expensive. When selecting a machine, checking SMB battery records and operating hours is much more useful than checking paint quality. Prices are determined based on equipment model, fault status, and maintenance plan, and a quotation will be issued after inspection.
What are the common types of faults in ABB robots?
The main types of contact are: SMB batteries are depleted and zero points are lost, with a significant proportion; Gearbox oil leakage and reducer wear in older models like IRB 4400 and IRB 6600; Wear of the wire feeding mechanism in arc welding models, as well as TCP offset after torch collisions; Sealing components aging after long-term operation in explosion-proof zones of spraying machines. Another type is not hardware failure, but system parameters lost and configuration is incorrect, manifested as abnormal shaft operation and failure to detect faults.
How should you choose between ABB and domestic brands (Inovance, Estun)?
Look at the scene. If you're working on arc welding or spraying, which rely heavily on trajectory accuracy and process packages, or need to unify programs and spare parts with existing ABB lines, continuing to use ABB is much easier. The program assets in RobotStudio can be reused. For standardized operations like handling, palletizing, and loading and unloading, domestic brands with the same load have much lower procurement costs and faster delivery. We do both, and when selecting models, we calculate the beat time, precision requirements, budget, and future maintenance capabilities together.
