Anshun's industrial base comes from the 011 Aviation Base. In the summer and autumn of 1964, the state specified that Guizhou's Third Front construction would center on defense industry, and the 011 Base (aviation) was sited in Anshun. Between 1964 and 1972, the state's First through Eighth Ministries of Machinery Industry relocated more than 100 defense-industry enterprises from the northeast, north and east to Guizhou, and tens of thousands of builders put up a complete fighter-jet factory system in Anshun. Building while producing, the 011 Base essentially completed its full industry chain within five years; on September 18, 1970, the J-6 fighter jet made a successful test flight. By the end of 1978, the 011 Base of the Third Ministry of Machinery Industry and its 46 subordinate units had been built — the largest number of units among Guizhou's three major defense-industry bases. Around the 011 Base, an R&D system gradually formed, led in complete aircraft by AVIC Guizhou Aircraft (Guifei), with Liyang (aero engines), Anda (aero forging), Anji (precision casting), Fenglei, Xin'an and others as supporting units. In January 2022, the State Council issued Document Guofa [2022] No. 2, supporting Guizhou in developing an aerospace industry focused on equipment manufacturing and maintenance services; in July 2022, Aviation Industry Corporation of China signed a deeper cooperation agreement with Guizhou Province; in May 2023, the provincial government approved the "Master Plan for the Guizhou Aviation Industry City (2022–2035)," designating Anshun as the core radiating to and driving Guiyang and Zunyi.

In 2024, Anshun's GDP grew 4% and above-scale industrial value added grew 8.7%; industrial investment rose 44.8%, ranking first in the province for the second consecutive year. Aviation equipment manufacturing is the leading industry: in 2024 its value added grew 10.5% (13.2% in January–November, with output value accounting for 33% of the citywide total), and the city has 64 above-scale aviation equipment enterprises. The Guizhou Aviation Industry City was named a 2024 MIIT special case of high-quality urban manufacturing development; projects such as Anda phase II and Hangxin UAVs were accelerated, and 41 new aviation equipment manufacturing and supporting projects were introduced. In January–August 2025, citywide above-scale industrial value added grew 16.6%, with aviation equipment manufacturing's gross industrial output value up 22.5%. The aviation industry city has 115 projects under construction with total investment of 28.076 billion yuan; since planning and construction began, 90 aviation equipment and supporting projects have been introduced with combined investment of 17.301 billion yuan. In energy, cumulative installed power capacity citywide reached 9.64 million kW, up 45.6%; phases I and II of the Guanling Panjiang gigawatt-class PV base were fully grid-connected; raw coal output was 2.46 million tons, up 106.6%. In computing power, 4 data centers have been built — Nanzhiyun and Anshun Caiyun among them — with total computing capacity of 393 PFlops; software and information technology services revenue grew 73.5%, first in the province.

On the industrial side, automation is concentrated in aviation parts machining. Angda Aviation Forging completed development of more than 1,100 new products in 2022 and holds a market share of about 37% in aviation forgings. The core equipment of its flexible intelligent ring forging line was supplied by Germany's SMS group, achieving "one-click" output from bar stock to finished rings and supporting thousands of products. The line turns out 24,000 forgings a year, raises material utilization by 3 to 10 times, and cuts labor requirements by 60%; one or two technicians start the entire line from a terminal. According to coverage of a group interview with the Guizhou delegation at the 2025 national two sessions, nearly 80% of the aviation alloy forgings used on the C919 airliner come from Angda (the figure comes from a delegate's remarks and has not been verified by a third party). Anji Precision Casting has moved into the Anji Aviation Industrial Park and completed installation and commissioning of production lines for aluminum alloy precision casting, small and medium superalloy castings, and alloy steel precision casting. Phase I is fully in production, with output reaching 100 million yuan in 2024; Phase II will add large titanium alloy and superalloy lines and a large hot isostatic pressing line. On the agricultural and specialty food side, the city's comprehensive mechanization rate for plowing, sowing and harvesting of major crops reached 60.9%, ranking first in the province. The "Anshun Xixiu District Tea Enterprise Cloud Smart Fresh-Leaf Weighing Solution" was recommended by the Information Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs as a national smart agriculture model case. The city has 780 agro-processing enterprises with output value above 2 million yuan and a combined output value of 36 billion yuan, and its agro-processing conversion rate stands at 63%. No public data are available on specific robot configurations on production lines, nor on the city's installed industrial robot base or annual new installations (to be verified).
