Qiannan's industry originated in the 083 electronics base. In November 1964, the State Council's National Defense Industry Office decided to build a military electronics industrial system along the Duyun-Kaili-Huangping line in Guizhou and organize Base 083, with products covering radar, computers, electronic components and semiconductor devices; core units included Institute 38, Plant 830, Plant 4326 and Plant 771. By the end of 1978, Base 083 of the Fourth Ministry of Machine-Building Industry and its 27 directly affiliated units had been completed. In 1984, the 25 enterprises and public institutions under Base 083 were consolidated into China Zhenhua Electronics Industry Company, headquartered in Duyun, beginning a shift to "military products first, civilian products as supplement". On June 18, 1996, China Zhenhua's headquarters and core R&D entities relocated as a whole from Duyun to the Xintian Park of the Guiyang High-Tech Zone, completing the Third Front relocation; Zhenhua Technology (000733) was listed in 1997. In 2024, the former site of the Duyun 083 base was selected into Guizhou's first batch of industrial heritage sites. Parallel to military electronics were machinery and phosphorus chemicals: backbone enterprises such as the Huishui Xianfeng Machine Tool Plant and the Duyun Dongfang Machine Tool Plant were built during the Third Front construction; the Wengfu mine-fertilizer base broke ground in Fuquan in 1990, and Fuquan subsequently gathered phosphorus chemical leaders such as Wengfu and Chuanheng and new-energy materials companies such as Yuneng and Shengtun, forming a 100-billion-yuan-class phosphorus chemical industrial base at Fuquan-Weng'an.

In 2024, Qiannan Prefecture's GDP was 194.716 billion yuan, up 5.6%, with secondary industry value added of 57.804 billion yuan, up 7.8%, and above-scale industrial value added grew 9.8%, ranking third in the province. Among major industries, chemical raw materials and chemical products manufacturing grew 26.0%, non-metallic mineral mining and washing 21.9%, and metal products 7.0%. Major products: phosphate ore (converted to 30% P2O5 content) 10.8873 million tons, up 8.0%; chemical fertilizer (in pure terms) 744,600 tons, up 68.6%; refined tea 3,892.63 tons, up 7.1%. Total profits of above-scale industrial enterprises were 6.62 billion yuan, up 56.8%. Prefecture-wide above-scale gross industrial output value leapt from 61.26 billion yuan in 2012 to 122.33 billion yuan in 2025, cultivating 2 enterprises at the 10-billion-yuan level, 2 at the 5-billion-yuan level and 13 at the 1-billion-yuan level, with above-scale industrial enterprises reaching 669. Fuquan City is the core: in 2024 its GDP was 30.1 billion yuan, up 9.4%; above-scale gross industrial output value was 43.33 billion yuan, up 7.8% and 42.5% of the prefecture's total; above-scale industrial value added was 12.039 billion yuan, up 15.6%; industrial tax revenue was 2.04 billion yuan, accounting for 69% of the city's total tax revenue. The Qiannan High-Tech Zone has formed a "one zone, three parks" layout; Wengfu Group's output value exceeded 11 billion yuan, and Guizhou Yuneng became the prefecture's first 10-billion-yuan-level enterprise.

On the industrial side, activity centers on three lines: smart phosphate mines, smart factories and equipment manufacturing. The Chuanyandong mine is the country's largest modern single-site open-pit phosphate mine: workers remotely crush ore 300 meters underground from the surface, and an unmanned transport system lifts it up, pushing ore utilization past 90%. Wengfu Group's smart factory builds an intelligent system on 5G and digital twins, achieving 24-hour unmanned monitoring of high-risk areas, precise energy consumption control and safety early warning, raising production efficiency by 25% and cutting operating costs by 22%; the Wengfu Jiangshan project completed a unified industrial internet platform linking more than 20 business systems covering production, safety and equipment, and introduced 5G smart inspection robots into substations and power distribution rooms. In equipment manufacturing, China Zhenhua (Base 083) has continued to advance its "industrial internet + smart manufacturing system" since relocating in 1996, configuring flexible production for the "small batch, high variety" demands of advanced electronics; Huishui Xianfeng Machine Tool was recognized as a Guizhou manufacturing single-product champion demonstration enterprise for its roll grinder series (no public data on robot welding or loading/unloading configurations; to be verified). On the agricultural side, activity concentrates on roxburgh rose, tea and chili: Guiding Shanwangguo's 5G smart factory processes 15 to 25 tons of fresh fruit per hour, with robotic arms handling filling and palletizing; Duyun Maojian Group's fully automated tea production line, the first in Qiannan Prefecture, went into service in 2024, where 5 workers can process more than 500 kg of fresh leaves in 4 hours; Fuquan Xianglahong's 6 intelligent drying lines consume 120 tons of fresh chilies a day.
