PART 01

Industrialization History

Before 1949, Ganzi had only primitive, rough handicraft industry and no modern industry at all; at liberation the prefecture had just two industrial enterprises. Since the 10th Five-Year Plan, the "industry-strong prefecture" strategy built on advantaged resource development has gradually formed a structure in which hydropower and minerals provide strong support, while Chinese and Tibetan medicine, building materials, and agricultural and livestock product processing develop as distinctive sectors. Mining enterprises came onstream one after another — Jiulong Liwu Copper Mine in 1995, Baiyu Xiacun Silver Polymetallic Mine in 2006, and Jiulong Yalong River Mining in 2016. In 2018, mining enterprises accounted for 15.3% of above-scale industrial value added, and power and minerals replaced the "timber" industry (forestry was the pillar before the Natural Forest Protection Program) as the mainstay of industry. In hydropower, the Lengzhuguan, Renzonghai, Jiangbian, Luding, Xigu, Huangjinping, Houziyan and Changheba stations entered operation in succession; in recent years the Lianghekou Hydropower Station (3 GW installed capacity, annual generation over 11 billion kWh), the Kela PV plant (the world's largest and highest-altitude hydro–PV complementary project), and the million-kilowatt-class Yebatan and Batang PV projects were completed or commissioned one after another. By 2018, industrial enterprises in the prefecture had grown from two at liberation to 1,432, including 54 above-scale enterprises.

PART 02

Current Industrial Development

In 2025, Ganzi Prefecture's GDP reached 61.311 billion yuan, up 5.5%. Total industrial value added rose from 8.87 billion yuan at the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan to 17.1 billion yuan in 2025, an average annual growth of 8.4%, and industry's share of GDP climbed from 21.7% to 28.03%. Above-scale industrial value added grew 16.2%, first in the province. There were 97 above-scale industrial enterprises — 17 in mining, 28 in manufacturing, and 52 in electricity, heat, gas and water production and supply. Value added grew 31.6% in mining, 2.3% in manufacturing, and 14.9% in electricity, heat, gas and water, which accounted for 2.01%, 12.20% and 85.79% of above-scale industrial value added respectively — the low manufacturing share is a structural feature of Ganzi's industry. Among major products, electricity generation reached 68.15 billion kWh, up 10.7%; lithium concentrate 219,100 tons, up 170.6%; cement 671,000 tons; copper metal 11,400 tons; and zinc 17,700 tons. In January–November, above-scale industrial enterprises recorded operating revenue of 19.457 billion yuan, up 12.3%, and total profit of 3.073 billion yuan, up 72.5%. Clean-energy installed capacity exceeded 20 GW, with more than 25 GW under construction. Industrial investment reached 22.96 billion yuan, and technological-transformation investment grew 102.6%. Food and beverage, ethnic handicraft, and Chinese and Tibetan medicine processing achieved output values of 1.24 billion yuan, 730 million yuan and 300 million yuan respectively; enclave parks posted gross industrial output of 44.27 billion yuan.

PART 03

Industrial Robot & Automation Applications

Ganzi's manufacturing sector is very small (28 above-scale manufacturing enterprises, with value added accounting for only 12.2% of above-scale industry), so industrial-robot applications are extremely limited. Automation is concentrated in three types of scenarios. First, unmanned operation and remote centralized control of hydropower and PV stations, plus digital-twin substations and online monitoring. Second, mineral mining and beneficiation: 2.304 million tons of raw ore were processed in 2025 and mining output value grew 53.9%, with concentrators relying mainly on centralized control of crushing, conveying and flotation. Third, highland-characteristic agricultural and livestock products and Chinese and Tibetan medicine processing: six quality-upgrading and output-doubling projects — including Daocheng Kas Ice Spring, Luhuo Kangba Shengde and Jiulong Tianxiang Tea — were completed and put into operation; casein was included in the provincial key-industry cultivation catalog; and processing relies mainly on standalone filling, packaging and sorting equipment. On the emerging front, the country's first high-altitude cave-style computing-cabin smart-computing center was completed and commissioned at the Lianghekou Hydropower Station, with 15 computing cabins in operation, 500P of computing power, and the province's first green "smart computing cabin" pilot completed. No authoritative statistics on the prefecture's industrial-robot holdings, annual new installations or robot density have been found through public channels (to be verified). Judging from the industrial structure, near-term robot demand likely to materialize is mainly single-machine retrofits of mineral-product primary processing, building-materials, and agricultural and livestock product processing lines.
