PART 01

Industrialization History

Bishan made military leather boots for soldiers fighting Japan during the war, and the shoemaking tradition continued from there. Around 1982, a retired worker of the Chongqing Leather Shoe Factory opened a workshop in his hometown of Batang; within five or six years more than 580 leather plants had clustered across northern Bishan. In 1996 a leather industry-and-trade zone was completed, turning out over 9 million pairs of leather shoes a year with an output value of 270 million yuan. In January 2003, Aokang Group — "China's Shoe King" — signed on to invest in Bishan, building the Western Shoe Capital Industrial Park (total investment 1 billion yuan, planned area 2,600 mu; 1 mu ≈ 0.067 hectare), and in February 2006 Bishan was awarded the title "Shoe Capital of Western China." By 2009 the county had more than 1,300 leather shoe enterprises and over 200 motorcycle- and auto-parts enterprises, yet gross industrial output was only 30 billion yuan, with clear high-energy-consumption, low-value-added features; workshop-style production caused severe pollution, and the Binan River's water quality at one point fell below Class V. The Bishan Industrial Park was established in December 2002; after the Bishan Tunnel opened in 2010, electronic information, equipment manufacturing, and food and pharmaceuticals were set as the three leading industries; on September 29, 2015, the Bishan High-Tech Zone was upgraded to national level — the city's second national high-tech zone. The severe pollution from workshop-style leather and motorcycle-parts production, which pushed the Binan River below Class V, was the direct driver of the later governance model of "closure, consolidation and transformation plus park-based concentration"; the 2010 opening of the Bishan Tunnel removed the commuting bottleneck with the main urban area, the three leading industries — electronic information, equipment manufacturing, and food and pharmaceuticals — were established, and on September 29, 2015, the Bishan High-Tech Zone was upgraded to a national-level high-tech zone.

PART 02

Current Industrial Development

In 2024, Bishan's GDP reached 104 billion yuan, up 6.3%, and gross above-scale industrial output hit 107.14 billion yuan — the district's first-ever "double 100 billion." In 2025, GDP was 107.68 billion yuan, up 5.8%, and gross above-scale industrial output was 108.5 billion yuan. The Bishan High-Tech Zone posted 87.76 billion yuan of gross above-scale industrial output in 2025 and hosts 1,714 enterprises, including 440 above-scale industrial enterprises; industrial investment was 7.98 billion yuan. Its leading industry is core components for intelligent connected NEVs, clustering 127 above-scale industrial enterprises such as BYD, Qingshan Industry, and Chenzhi Technology; 2025 output was about 57.4 billion yuan, or roughly 63 billion yuan on a whole-district basis — more than 20% of the city's total. Representative products include BYD's Blade Battery, Qingshan Industry's multi-in-one electric drive systems, and Longrun's automotive steering systems. Next-generation electronic information manufacturing clusters 90 above-scale enterprises across the "chip–display–device–core–network" chain, with 2025 output of about 11.6 billion yuan; the intelligent equipment industry has 74 above-scale enterprises and output of about 6.5 billion yuan. R&D intensity exceeds 2.85%. As of 2025 the district counts a cumulative 492 high-tech enterprises, 303 specialized and innovative SMEs, and 16 national-level "little giants." On park tier, the Bishan High-Tech Zone is a national-level high-tech zone — the city's second. R&D platforms such as the BYD Power Battery Research Institute, the Konka Optoelectronics Technology Research Institute, and the Chongqing High-Tech Industry Research Institute, plus a 5-billion-yuan industrial investment fund, support local supply matching for the two chains: "chip–display–device–core–network" and intelligent connected NEVs.

PART 03

Industrial Robot & Automation Applications

Smart upgrading in the Bishan High-Tech Zone follows a tiered-cultivation approach: 1 national outstanding-level smart factory, 10 advanced-level smart factories, and 78 basic-level smart factories have been built, along with 9 national-level green factories and 29 municipal-level green factories (another tally gives 10 national and 30 municipal). In 2025 the district implemented 73 smart upgrading projects and built 9 new basic-level smart factories; the battery and electric-drive lines of chain leaders such as BYD and Qingshan Industry are its most highly automated links. In robot bodies, Landai Technology's joint-module capacity has reached 200,000 sets, placing it in the national first tier. In 2025 the district issued a three-year action plan for the embodied-intelligence robot industry; Galbot's complete-machine manufacturing base was signed and landed; industry output broke 50 million yuan; and a joint-module industrial park is being built toward the goal of "a start in year one, results in year two, momentum in year three," positioned as western China's leading embodied-intelligence robot hub. In agriculture, the modern digital smart facility-agriculture demonstration base has been included in the "15th Five-Year Plan" major project list for the Chengdu–Chongqing Twin-City Economic Circle, but public data on installed agricultural robots and automation equipment and on application scenarios in the district are insufficient (to be verified). Battery and electric-drive lines are the most automated: Chongqing Fudi Lithium Battery is the launch site of BYD's Blade Battery — eight processes run on 14 production lines, the smart level reaches 95%, with nearly 100 industrial robots and a complete automatic logistics conveyor line; one Blade Battery rolls off the line every 6 seconds, and about 70% of the city's NEV power batteries are "made in Bishan."
