Qijiang District: industrial parks and plants served by our local team
PART 01

Industrialization History

Qijiang is one of Chongqing's old industrial bases, its skeleton formed by three pillars: energy, metallurgy, and gear machinery. The gear machinery lineage traces back to the Qijiang Gear Works, which relocated inland during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. New China's first automobile transmission, first batch of automobile gears, and first automatic automobile gear production line all came from here, and a 3,150-ton hot die forging press imported from West Germany in the early 1950s remains on the plant grounds. In energy, Qijiang was one of the 12 coal mining regions prioritized for national construction in the 1960s; the Songzao mining area holds proven geological reserves of 1.25 billion tons, roughly 70% of Chongqing's total anthracite, and Shihao Coal Mine was known as "the flower of southwest China's coal mines." The Qijiang iron mine served as the raw material base for wartime local iron smelting. In metallurgy, the predecessor of Chongqing No. 4 Iron and Steel Plant was Dongyuan Industrial, organized by Wu Juyi and others in Dongxi Town; it later became the state-run Dongyuan Iron Smelting Plant, was merged into the state-run Sanjiang Iron and Steel Plant in 1958, transferred to Chongqing Iron and Steel in 1965 to become its No. 4 Iron and Steel Plant, and exited in 2012. During the Third Front construction period, Qingjiang Machine Works, Shuangxi Machine Works, and Pingshan Machine Works were also sited here; together with the Chongqing Smelter and the Chongqing Wire Rope Plant, Qijiang produced "eight firsts" in China's industrial history. Of the 96 industrial heritage sites designated by the 2017 "Chongqing Municipal Industrial Heritage Protection and Utilization Plan," Qijiang accounts for 11.

PART 02

Current Industrial Development

In 2024, Qijiang District's GDP grew 5.5%, industrial value added grew 5.9%, above-scale industrial value added grew 6.7%, and above-scale gross industrial output grew 6.7%, with 219 above-scale industrial enterprises. The three pillar industries accounted for 78.6% of the district's above-scale gross industrial output: aluminum and deep aluminum processing grew 10.9%, complete automobiles and motorcycles and their parts grew 2.5%, and prefabricated construction fell 16.7%. The Qijiang High-Tech Zone hosts 155 above-scale industrial enterprises with gross output up 5.4% - the aluminum industrial park up 11.0%, the Qiaohe industrial park down 4.1%, and the food industrial park up 2.3%. The district advances a "2+4+N" set of segmented tracks: light alloy materials delivered 14.76 billion yuan in output, intelligent equipment manufacturing 2.62 billion yuan, prefabricated construction components 2.15 billion yuan, food processing 1.37 billion yuan, information security 530 million yuan, natural gas chemicals 490 million yuan, and strategic emerging industries 4.66 billion yuan; the aluminum industry chain has gathered 50 upstream and downstream enterprises with annual output exceeding 14 billion yuan. Among key products, complete motorcycles grew 28.7%, power generation grew 13.7%, and aluminum products grew 1.8%, while aluminum alloys fell 35.9% and cement fell 18.8%. For the year, above-scale industrial revenue reached 29.22 billion yuan and profits 750 million yuan, up 236%; industrial investment grew 16.1% and fixed-asset investment grew 15.4%.

PART 03

Industrial Robot & Automation Applications

Qijiang has not published its industrial robot installed base or robot density; both are to be verified. Automation investment can be checked against project lists and production line cases. The flagship project is Chongqing Qineng Electric Aluminum's 5G + industrial internet integrated aluminum-power smart factory: internal 5G network coverage reaches 97.72%, all 296 electrolytic cells are networked (100% connectivity), and there are 2,257 networked devices and terminals; externally, a production edge-cloud collaboration platform and a supply chain collaboration platform link more than 10 upstream and downstream enterprises. In the gear industry, Chongqing Jingjiang Automobile Half-Shaft invested more than 30 million yuan to retrofit a smart workshop where robotic arms start working once operators issue data commands. In Qijiang District's 2024 review of smart manufacturing pilot and demonstration projects, selected entries included Yuyang Auto Parts' Klingelnberg high-precision spiral bevel gear digital workshop, Jingjiang Half-Shaft's lightweight commercial vehicle half-shaft line retrofit, Qijiang Southwest Cement's new dry-process cement clinker digital workshop, Youlisen's NEV parts digital workshop, Saizhiyuan's intelligent line for 60,000 Yuchai China-VI engine gears a year, Jingruida's heavy-truck rear-axle planetary gear digital workshop, and Yonghe's straight bevel and cylindrical gear digital workshop. By 2024 the district had implemented 197 smart retrofit projects cumulatively (another count gives 43 projects, with 37 enterprises "moving to the cloud, going online, and using data"); Chongqing Guoxun Electronics' smart electronic product production digital workshop was selected as a 2024 municipal-level digital workshop.
