Wuxi sits on the southern foot of the eastern Daba Mountains. Steep terrain and long-standing poor access have left it with one of the weakest industrial bases in northeastern Chongqing. Historically its industry consisted mainly of small hydropower, coal, building materials and primary processing of farm and forestry products, and backbone manufacturing enterprises were long absent. Marked change came only during the 14th Five-Year Plan period: the number of above-scale industrial enterprises rose from 23 in 2020 to 28 in 2024; industry's contribution to growth climbed from -42.1% in 2020 to 8.1% in 2024, an increase of 50.2 percentage points; industrial investment grew an average 25.7% per year, and industrial chains in electric power and energy kept improving; society-wide R&D spending rose from 11.5 million yuan in 2020 to 35.94 million yuan in 2024, an average annual growth of 33.0%, 19.1 percentage points above the citywide rate; energy consumption per unit of GDP fell from 0.367 tons of standard coal per 10,000 yuan in 2020 to 0.222 tons. In terms of positioning, Wuxi proposes to build a Chongqing green food processing base, a Chongqing demonstration base for traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) processing, a citywide clean energy base, a green stone processing base for southwest China, a Chongqing educational equipment production base, and a new energy and new materials base for northeastern Chongqing. It focuses on six signature industries — "one grilled fish, one cup of eagle tea, one seed potato, one TCM herb, one Banjiao goat, one bottle of light-aroma Xiaoqu baijiu" — whose combined output value reached 4.761 billion yuan in 2024.

In 2024, Wuxi's GDP reached 15.53 billion yuan, up 5.2%, with a three-sector structure of 18.6:24.1:57.3 and per capita GDP of 41,227 yuan; industrial value added was 1.61 billion yuan, up 4.0%, and above-scale industrial value added grew 7.5%. By sector, mining fell 9.8%, manufacturing grew 8.5%, and electricity, heat, gas and water production and supply fell 2.3%. Small industrial scale is the basic fact: the county has 28 above-scale industrial enterprises, and its industrial value added is a mere fraction of Fengjie's. Construction value added, at 2.14 billion yuan and up 7.2%, actually exceeds industry. The industrial profile centers on agricultural product and TCM processing. Potatoes: the county hosts southwest China's largest potato seed breeding base, selling over 100,000 tons of quality seed potatoes a year with an output value above 200 million yuan; the potato modern agriculture industrial park covers 4 towns and 24 administrative villages, with a standing sown area of 80,000 mu — nearly a quarter of the county total — and annual output value of 270 million yuan. Eagle tea: the county is southwest China's largest growing area of wild eagle tea, with more than 100 "eagle tea+" products developed, including canned beverages. Abelmoschus (golden mallow): a 5,000-mu core planting base has been built with 6 primary processing lines and 1 flavonoid extraction line; in 2024 it purchased 2,670 tons of fresh flowers, produced 203 tons of dried flowers and extracted 5 tons of flavonoids (65% purity), with annual output value topping 120 million yuan. In 2024 the park generated value added of 598,300 yuan and tax revenue of 107,100 yuan per mu, up 38.4% and 17.2% respectively.

With industrial value added of only 1.61 billion yuan and 28 above-scale industrial enterprises, Wuxi is one of the Chongqing counties where industrial robot application is virtually zero. Automation appears mainly at the level of standalone processing machines and process control, not robot bodies. Three categories of equipment can be confirmed. First, tuber processing lines: sweet potato processors in Xintian town and elsewhere have built starch lines integrating mechanical washing, processing, sedimentation and baking, plus fully automatic modern lines for refined vermicelli; Liyuan Agriculture introduced a fully automatic line as early as 2016 and processes over 5,000 tons of fresh tubers a year (another report says around 7,000 tons), producing crystal vermicelli, hotpot noodles and hot-and-sour noodles. Second, plant extraction and primary TCM processing lines: the abelmoschus operation has 6 primary processing lines and 1 flavonoid extraction line, forming a chain of "product R&D – deep processing – pilot scale-up – industrialization demonstration." Third, process automation in clean energy: computer monitoring, automatic grid connection and power regulation systems at small hydropower and wind farms, which fall under SCADA/PLC. In addition, Wuxi is building a border-trade logistics park for the Chongqing-Shaanxi-Hubei-Sichuan region with JD.com and Taiji Group, covering TCM trading, warehousing and cold-chain logistics, and express distribution; temperature control and sorting automation in cold-chain warehousing is among the few automation scenarios added in recent years. There is no publicly available authoritative figure for Wuxi County's installed industrial robot base, annual new installations, or robot density (units per 10,000 industrial workers) — all three to be verified.
