Dazu has two industrial headwaters. The first is hardware: large-scale statue carving from the late Tang through the Song required vast numbers of chisels, hammers, engraving knives, and drill rods; Longshui Town, rich in minerals and full of craftsmen, duly developed hardware forging, expanding from serving the stone carvings to farm tools, household implements, and hand-made blades, sold as far as Sichuan, Yunnan, and Guizhou along the Xiaochuan East Road. Today the products cover 12 major categories — daily-use hardware, tool hardware, and construction hardware among them — with more than 320 varieties and 2,600 patterns, exported to over 20 countries and regions; in 2005 Dazu was awarded the title "Hardware Capital of Western China." The second is heavy trucks from the Third Front era: in the 1960s the Sichuan Automobile Works was built in Dazu, hailed as "the only son of the Republic"; it produced New China's first heavy military off-road vehicle, the CQ260 Hongyan military truck, which went on to become a mainstay PLA model and passed in review through Tiananmen. Building on heavy trucks, Dazu has formed an industrial cluster with annual capacity of 70,000 special-purpose vehicles and 10 million motorcycles. A third is the resource line: Dazu's proven strontium reserves of 38.07 million tons make it Asia's largest strontium deposit, 46.3% of the national total and 26.7% of the world's, with an average grade of about 60% and barium carbonate content below 0.8%, earning the title "Strontium Capital of China"; strontium salt new materials have become a distinctive advantage industry.

In 2024, Dazu District's GDP grew 6.4%, industrial value added 6.2%, and above-scale industrial value added 7.6%. There were 399 above-scale industrial enterprises; gross industrial output grew 2.3%, with large and medium-sized enterprises' output up 7.9% and accounting for 49.2%. By industry, computer, communications and other electronic equipment manufacturing accounted for 19.0% of gross above-scale industrial output and grew 25.6%; rubber and plastics products accounted for 9.7% and grew 19.4%; and railway, shipbuilding, aerospace and other transport equipment manufacturing accounted for 9.1% and grew 8.7%. Above-scale industrial enterprise profits grew 3.9%, with a profit margin of 8.6% and a product sales rate of 93.8%. Industrial investment grew 32.1%; total imports and exports reached 6.02 billion yuan, up 30.7%. Several distinctive indicators: complete elevator capacity accounts for one-third of the city; camera module shipments rank fifth globally; and strontium reserves account for a quarter of the world's. On new increments: in February 2025 the Luyuan Group's Chongqing base entered production in the Wangu Park of the high-tech zone, targeting 2 million new-energy motorcycles and 4 billion yuan of output a year at full capacity; the strontium salt new materials industrial park was successfully certified a national Grade-D chemical park, with 8 chemical projects signed and moving in, and projected annual output above 21 billion yuan once built out and at capacity. On digital transformation, the penetration of digital R&D and design tools and the CNC-ization rate of key processes among above-scale industrial enterprises have passed 80% and 40% respectively, and the Dazu Hardware Industry Brain was included in the first municipal-level construction list.

Dazu is one of the few districts in Chongqing cultivating industrial robots as a distinctive industrial cluster: in 2020 the Dazu High-Tech Zone was approved as the "National Torch Dazu (Chongqing) Industrial Robot Feature Industrial Base." The park has clustered robot projects including Luobotai'er Robotics, Sirui Robotics, and Hande High-Tech pipeline robots; the base has attracted 43 projects with total investment above 6 billion yuan; and a 10,000-unit industrial robot production line is essentially complete, with capacity of 30,000 units — more than one-third of Chongqing's total. In 2019 the industrial robot feature industry achieved an output value of 2.879 billion yuan and tax revenue of 14.06 million yuan (annual output data thereafter to be verified). Product directions include high-end welding robots, logistics robots, and mobile manipulation robots, plus special robots such as pipe-network robots and underground pipeline flaw-detection robots. Luobotai'er provides machining enterprises with complete automation packages covering automatic gripping, machine loading/unloading, clamping, and machining; manipulators in its assembly workshop handle the entire workflow of handling, loading/unloading, welding, spraying, grinding, automatic inspection, and assembly. On the local application side, Chongqing Lifeng Hardware's smart workshop uses fully automatic robots to grind sickles; Shengtai Optoelectronics' smart factory for high-end precision camera module packaging and Chongqing Kafu's digital workshop for NEV brake and steering system parts were named to the 2024 municipal-level lists.
