Yubei grew out of Jiangbei County, whose total output value of industry and agriculture in 1949 was only 69.27 million yuan, 63.59 million of it agriculture; its industry once ranked last among the nine main urban districts. After 1978 it shifted to an industrialization path centered on auto manufacturing — one example is Chongqing Chicheng Auto Parts Company, formed in 1983 by dozens of laid-off workers. From 1985 to 1994, total revenue of township enterprises grew 37-fold, and the Longxi town enterprise zone was named a "national demonstration zone for east-west township enterprise cooperation" by the Ministry of Agriculture. In December 1994, Jiangbei County was dissolved and Yubei District established; Jiangbei Airport opened in 1990 and Chongqing became a direct-controlled municipality in 1997, laying the foundation for airport-oriented industry and park economy. In November 1998, the Changan Ford project for 150,000 passenger cars a year landed — Yubei's largest industrial project at the time (over 850 mu of land, 5.66 billion yuan invested). The Airport Industrial Park was established in 2002. On June 18, 2010, Liangjiang New Area was inaugurated — China's third and the inland's first national-level development and opening-up new area; in October 2025 the State Council approved setting up the Liangjiang New Area administrative district, formally unveiled on January 25, 2026. Spatially, Yubei's industry unfolds along the "Airport – Longxing – Frontier Science City" line: the airport park handles complete electronic devices and precision manufacturing, Longxing handles whole vehicles and power batteries, and Frontier Science City handles intelligent connectivity and industrial software — all three under unified management by Liangjiang New Area.

In 2024, Yubei's above-scale industrial output value hit a record 412.15 billion yuan, roughly one-seventh of the citywide total; GDP in the first half of 2025 reached 144.4 billion yuan, up 7.1%. The leading sectors are two 100-billion-yuan clusters — automobiles and electronic information. In 2024, automotive output value was 190.2 billion yuan, up 55.2%, with 763,000 vehicles produced, including 227,000 NEVs, up 5.6-fold; electronic information output value exceeded 160 billion yuan. OPPO's Chongqing factory started production in November 2019 and delivered 35.08 billion yuan of output value in 2024; Transsion's output value grew from 1 billion to 13 billion yuan after it settled in 2017. Across Liangjiang New Area, 2025 GDP reached 563.278 billion yuan, up 6.5%, above-scale industrial value added grew 7.4%, and 1.6975 million vehicles were produced, including 945,900 NEVs — up 60.2% and 73.0% of the citywide total; 58.5067 million smartphones were produced, 75.0% of the citywide total. In the Longxing area, above-scale industrial output value reached 102.5 billion yuan in January–October 2025, up 42%, clustering enterprises such as Seres, SAIC-GM-Wuling, Deepal Auto and CATL. At the cluster level, Liangjiang New Area is the core carrier of Chongqing's two trillion-yuan-class clusters — intelligent connected NEVs and electronic information; Frontier Science City focuses on intelligent connectivity and industrial software, and Longxing is positioned for whole vehicles and power batteries, with above-scale industrial output value of 102.5 billion yuan in January–October 2025, up 42%.

Yubei and Liangjiang New Area are among the most robot-intensive areas in Chongqing. Changan's Digital Intelligent Factory (in production since October 2024) runs more than 1,400 robots, with domestic robots in batch use at stations such as weld-spot inspection, side-panel glazing and body arc welding; the Seres Super Factory (Longxing, in service since February 2024) has over 3,000 robots, with welding and painting automation at 100%. On the supply side, Liangjiang New Area clusters HSR Robotics, Qiteng Robotics and Kawasaki (Chongqing) Robotics; in January–February 2025, 363 sets of industrial robots were produced, up 33% year on year. All three were named to the municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology's 2025 "Robot+" list of typical application scenarios; HSR's whole-machine localization rate exceeds 95%. In agriculture, Qinglong village in Yubei has carried out land consolidation for mechanization since 2018 and built Chongqing's first modern fruit industry base in a hilly mountain area, introducing automated fruit sorting lines that grade by weight, appearance and internal quality and deploying machinery for pruning, weeding, fertilizing and rail transport; process management costs fell by more than 50%, the premium-grade fruit rate rose by more than 40%, and income per mu increased by about 8,000 yuan. Detailed indicators such as Yubei's district-wide industrial robot density (units per 10,000 industrial workers) have no official public data (to be verified). In equipment terms, Changan's Digital Intelligent Factory has more than 800 smart devices, over 1,400 robots, more than 650 smart AGVs and over 200 fully automated workstations; key processes are 100% automated; it adopts an "AGV + robot + unmanned warehouse" model, with a dedicated 5G network connecting over 12,000 devices and switchovers among 8 vehicle models in 6 seconds; the 7,700-ton integrated die-casting line consolidates 163 parts into 2, cutting production time from 2 hours to 2 minutes.
