Jiangjin is one of the key host districts and counties for Third Front construction in Chongqing. The movement took off in the county in 1965: Changfeng Machine Plant, an enterprise under central government ownership, was the first completed, followed by the relocation and rebuilding of Qianjin, Xinxing, Yongjin, Plant No. 3533 and others in Jiangjin. State-run Yongjin Machine Plant (Plant No. 468) was originally planned for Baima Mountain in Wulong, but karst geology made construction impractical, so it was moved to Degan and He'ai in Jiangjin; it relocated in 1969, was renamed state-run Sichuan Gearbox Plant in 1984, and became Chongqing Gearbox Co., Ltd. after Chongqing attained municipal status. State-run Xinxing Machine Plant (Plant No. 467) later became Chongqing Jiangzeng Ship Heavy Industry, and in 1979 it developed the CZ355 turbocharger — China's first with independent intellectual property rights. The park economy began in 2000, when the "Jiangjin Degan Township Enterprise Park" was approved; on December 30, 2002, "Chongqing Degan Industrial Park" was approved as one of the city's first 16 characteristic industrial parks. In December 2003, ABB Jiangjin Turbocharging Ltd. from Switzerland settled there as the park's first overseas Fortune Global 500 company; Yihai Kerry signed in October 2007 and Luhua in September 2013, taking shape the grain-and-oil food industrial cluster. Third Front siting followed the logic of "near mountains, dispersed, concealed": plants such as Yongjin and Xinxing were laid out in scattered fashion along the Yangtze and around Degan, producing gearboxes, turbochargers and other marine and military-support components. Their machining and heat-treatment capabilities became the technical base of Jiangjin's later equipment manufacturing cluster.

In 2025, Jiangjin's GDP reached 141 billion yuan, up 3.6%; gross above-scale industrial output was 133.18 billion yuan; above-scale industrial value added grew 3.9%; and the district had 598 above-scale industrial enterprises, the second-largest count in the city. By sector: equipment manufacturing output grew 17.1%, automobiles and motorcycles 5.7%, materials 2.5%, consumer goods (food) fell 0.8%, and electronic information fell 13.1%. Under the "3+3+X" system, intelligent equipment and smart manufacturing is designated a 100-billion-yuan-class leading industry, with consumer goods and materials as two 50-billion-yuan-class pillar industries. The platform structure is "one zone, four clusters": in Degan Industrial Park, the two leading industries — equipment manufacturing and food/agricultural product processing — accounted for 82% of above-scale gross industrial output in 2025; 56 new projects were signed with contracted investment of 16.37 billion yuan, and industrial investment grew 27%. The Luohuang cluster relies on the Chongqing Hub Port Industrial Park; Luohuang Port has an annual handling capacity of 20 million tons, and the Jiangjin block trains of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor made more than 2,100 trips in 2025, first in the city. Jiangjin is the only district or county in the city to hold all three national demonstration bases for new-type industrialization — equipment manufacturing, grain-and-oil processing and industrial internet. In 2025, agricultural machinery production and sales reached 1.86 million units, first in the city, including more than 500,000 power tillers per year — one in every six power tillers in China is "made in Jiangjin".

Equipment manufacturing is Jiangjin's most automated segment. Chongqing Gearbox's self-developed gearbox for 18-MW offshore wind turbines has a torque density exceeding 210 Nm/kg, and the company has cumulatively supplied the industry with more than 20,000 wind-power speed-increasing gearboxes. Jiangzeng Heavy Industry's steam compressors have ranked first in domestic order volume for several consecutive years, and its business has extended into compressor and turbine system integration. Degan Industrial Park has cumulatively been recognized with 5 Chongqing municipal smart factories, 21 digital workshops and 5 national-level green factories; in February 2026, the first batch of 12 supply-chain enterprises moved into the CSSC Chongqing Hub Port Clean Energy Equipment Industrial Base, with a total investment of about 4 billion yuan. Agricultural equipment is another specialty: as Chongqing's only smart agricultural machinery base for mountainous and hilly terrain, Jiangjin hosts a tracked electric multi-function agricultural power platform developed by the district's chief fruit expert team, capable of fully unmanned rotary tillage and weeding, spraying and micro-fertilizer application, deep plowing and subsoiling, and field transport. It uses about 30 kWh per day at an operating cost of roughly 20 yuan — more than 90% below the 300-yuan average daily fuel cost of conventional diesel machinery — and was selected among the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs' 2023 outstanding smart agriculture cases. Jiangjin's industrial robot stock and annual new installations have not been publicly released (to be verified). Agricultural machinery is Jiangjin's most differentiated segment: as the city's only smart agricultural machinery base for hilly and mountainous terrain, Jiangjin has gathered complete-machine leaders such as Weima Agricultural Machinery, Runtong Technology and Wanhu Electromechanical, along with more than 100 supporting firms, forming a "one-hour supply circle". Chongqing Shenjite's fully intelligentized Sichuan pepper production line uses small-airflow large-circulation drying with PLC control, integrating fresh pepper collection, color fixing, conveying, drying, separation, screening and packing-to-warehouse into a single machine; it dries 100–120 tons of raw Sichuan pepper per day, 40% more efficient than traditional processes.
