Shapingba's modern industry clustered along the Jialing River on the Shuangbei-Ciqikou line, centered on two arsenals. The first was the Ordnance Administration's No. 25 Arsenal, whose predecessor was the Longhua branch of Shanghai's Jiangnan Arsenal founded in 1875; after the September 18 Incident (1931) it moved through Gongxian and Zhuzhou, then relocated inland to Shuangbei in 1938 under the external code name "Nianwu Farm." It produced rifle ammunition and wooden-handled grenades during the war, and the site still holds 20 bullet-making machines from the late Qing and Republican eras plus more than 40 air-raid shelter workshops at the foot of Guabang Mountain. After 1949 it was renamed the state-run Jialing Machine Factory; it converted to civilian production in 1979, and on September 15 that year it built China's first civilian motorcycle, the Jialing 50. It partnered with Honda of Japan through the 1980s and 1990s, was dubbed "King of China's Motorcycles," and relocated wholesale to Bishan in 2012. The second was the Ordnance Administration's No. 24 Arsenal, prepared in 1919 with construction starting in 1935; originally named the Chongqing Electric Steel Plant, it began operation on January 8, 1937 and smelted southwest China's first electric-furnace steel, making it the region's earliest iron and steel enterprise. It expanded while producing during the war years, with specialty steel output peaking at over 4,000 tons a year. After 1949 it was known successively as Southwest Industrial Department Plant 102 and the Chongqing No. 2 Iron and Steel Plant, and was named the Chongqing Special Steel Plant in November 1978. Both plants expanded substantially during the Third Front construction period, and Shuangbei developed production and residential areas covering several square kilometers. These two threads made Shapingba a main carrier of Chongqing's modern steel, ordnance, and motorcycle industries.

In 2024, Shapingba District's GDP exceeded 120 billion yuan, up 6.5%; above-scale industrial value added grew 10.3%, second among the central urban districts; and industrial investment grew 33.4%. The district's 235 above-scale industrial enterprises delivered 269.51 billion yuan in gross output, up 10.5% - electronic information manufacturing 196.85 billion yuan, down 0.4%; traditional industries 72.65 billion yuan, up 56.7% (automobile manufacturing 50.07 billion yuan, up 147.0%). By area, the high-tech zone portion contributed 209.38 billion yuan, up 1.3%, and other areas 60.13 billion yuan, up 61.1%. Seres is the biggest variable: it delivered 35.61 billion yuan in output for the year, up 1.7-fold, lifting the district's output growth by 9.1 percentage points. Structurally, high-tech manufacturing and strategic emerging industries account for 76.8% and 90.1% of output respectively. Key products: 46.808 million laptops, 6.441 million monitors, 188,800 automobiles (up 87.6%, including 175,000 NEVs, up 158.0%), 149,000 motorcycles, and 14.454 million kW of engines (up 129.1%). The district is building a "2+4+X" modern manufacturing system, with Seres as chain leader gathering more than 30 core parts enterprises; the life and health industry's revenue exceeded 30 billion yuan, up 25%. Leveraging its position as a departure point of the China-Europe Railway Express and an origin of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor, the district used 2.87 billion USD in foreign investment and imported and exported 80,000 complete vehicles, ranking first among inland ports nationwide.

Shapingba has not published its industrial robot installed base or robot density; both are to be verified. The most recognizable scene is Seres' Fenghuang smart factory in the Qingfeng Science and Innovation City: more than 1,000 robots work in coordinated order, robotic arms extend and rotate, laser welding runs at high speed, and one intelligent connected NEV rolls off the line every 90 seconds on average; the plant's "automobile manufacturing smart factory" was named to Chongqing's 2024 smart factory list. Electronic information is the other major block: the district produces 46.808 million laptops a year, with SCARA and parallel robots widely used in SMT placement, dispensing, screw fastening, sorting, and inspection; retrofits of these lines are mostly carried out within the directly administered park of Western Science City Chongqing High-Tech Zone. In addition, projects such as Boyu Robotics were completed and began production in 2022, and local supply capacity in robot bodies and system integration is starting to form (capacity and shipment data to be verified). Equipment types center on six-axis robots (welding, handling, gluing), SCARA robots (electronics assembly), AGVs (in-plant logistics), and machine vision inspection. For local small and medium supporting enterprises, retrofits focus on replacing manual welding with robots, production line data acquisition, and quality traceability systems.
