Dianjiang's industry began with natural gas chemicals. The Sichuan Dianjiang County Nitrogen Fertilizer Plant, built in 1970 and predecessor of today's Chongqing Fuyuan Chemical, initially produced 3,000 tons of synthetic ammonia and 10,000 tons of ammonium bicarbonate a year, with 1972 revenue of 2.9633 million yuan. After five equity changes it now sits under Jianfeng within the Chongqing Chemical and Pharmaceutical Holdings Group; in 2022 its dozens of products — synthetic ammonia, nitric acid, ammonium nitrate, and more — totaled 600,000 tons in output, with assets of 570 million yuan and revenue of 708 million yuan, making it the largest sodium nitrate and sodium nitrite producer in southwest China. On park platforms: the Dianjiang Industrial Park was founded in August 2002, approved by the municipal government as a municipal-level specialty industrial park in July 2003, and confirmed by the National Development and Reform Commission as a provincial-level development zone in January 2006. On June 2, 2021, the municipal government approved the establishment of the Dianjiang High-Tech Industrial Development Zone — Chongqing's first municipal-level high-tech zone created under the "recognition drives construction" approach — and it passed creation acceptance in December 2024. On December 23, 2021, the county-town industrial transformation and upgrading demonstration park and the national-level high-tech zone creation PPP project were signed and started, with total investment of 14.044 billion yuan — the largest investment project in Dianjiang's history. A cluster of leading enterprises has since taken shape, represented by Jieli Wheel Hub (motorcycle wheel hubs), Xingfa Jinguan (dimethyl sulfoxide), Yujiang Gongcheng (smart prefabricated buildings), and Taijing Technology (crystal resonators), and a western intelligent valve industrial base was built "from nothing."

In 2024, Dianjiang's industrial value added grew 4.2% and above-scale industrial value added grew 5.1% — 2.2 percentage points below the citywide average; gross output of above-scale industrial enterprises grew 2.7%, with above-scale large and medium-sized enterprises up 9.1% and a product sales rate of 97.2%. Among the 30 major industry categories, 21 posted year-on-year output growth — a growth breadth of 70%; of the seven "billion-yuan-level" industries, five rose and two fell, averaging 3.5% growth and an 83.8% contribution: transport equipment manufacturing grew 23.2%, non-ferrous metal smelting and rolling 19.7%, pharmaceutical manufacturing 16.7%, oil and natural gas extraction 4.2%, and agricultural and sideline food processing 0.1%; chemical raw materials and chemical products fell 0.5% and non-metallic mineral products 6.7%. Major product volumes: raw natural gas 451 million cubic meters (up 10.2%), purified natural gas 451 million cubic meters (up 12.3%), synthetic ammonia 131,700 tons, sodium nitrate 32,600 tons (up 45.2%), wheel hubs 9.61 million sets (up 19.7%), and electricity generation 588 million kWh (up 34.1%). The "2+1" leading specialty industries are advanced materials, automobile and motorcycle equipment, and food, pharmaceuticals and agricultural product processing. The Dianjiang High-Tech Zone now has 212 industrial enterprises, including 120 above-scale enterprises, 82 high-tech enterprises, 44 specialized and innovative SMEs, and 8 national-level specialized and innovative "little giants."

Dianjiang is one of the counties in northeast Chongqing where industrial robot application is relatively quantifiable. Following the path of "robots replacing workers, core replacement in equipment, line replacement in production, digital workshops, and smart factories," total robot applications in the county's industrial sector broke 400 units in 2024 (stock basis), driving 18 traditional producers — including Huihu Catalyst, Zhongkun New Materials, and Tiansheng Pharmaceutical — to introduce industrial robots at key links. The same year, 4 new digital workshops were built, bringing the cumulative total to 18 municipal-level digital workshops and 5 smart factories, with 110 municipal-level smart upgrading projects implemented in all; the CNC-ization rate of key enterprises' equipment rose to about 60%, and the digitalization coverage of key enterprises' operations and management reached 100%. Typical equipment and scenarios: Huihu Catalyst runs 1 digital quantitative coating machine, 1 fully automatic GBD encapsulation machine, and 12 welding robots, for an automation rate of 80%; Jieli Wheel's smart line for motorcycle aluminum-alloy wheel hubs uses robotic arms for the full die-casting, machining, and coating process, cutting the production cycle by 40% and headcount by 30%, with peak annual capacity of 12 million units; Fuyuan Chemical built Chongqing's first 5G+ fully connected factory in the chemical industry and created 3 municipal-level digital workshops, lifting production efficiency by 40%; and Tiansheng Pharmaceutical's digital workshop for TCM extraction pretreatment monitors equipment and line parameters in real time over the industrial internet, raising production efficiency by more than 10% and cutting operating costs by more than 20%.
